TLW Hyde Leather and Handcraft

I fell in love with leather long ago at summer camp in northern Minnesota. I was the shy awkward kid that did not want to leave the craft table because there, working with my hands, I could quietly excel. Over the years many hand crafts have slipped through my fingers, but a passion for leather remains.
I have chosen to work with leather that has been tanned the “old way” using vegetation. The vegetable tanning or vegtan process is slow- taking up to six months to complete. This process is gentler to the environment, more respectful of the animal and produces a leather far superior to the more common chrome tanned leather.
I stitch by hand using no machinery, but simple tools such as an awl, a stitching clam, two needles and linen thread.
The items I create are meant to be used and are built to last. I believe the product to be lovely to look at and wonderful to touch.
